Plant Care

  • Light: Keep ferns indoors in bright, indirect sunlight away from heating vents and drafty doors.
  • Humidity: Boston ferns need high humidity to thrive. You can mist your plant regularly, or place it on a tray of wet pebbles to create a humid atmosphere.
  • Water: Water ferns frequently to prevent the soil from drying out, but make sure the pot has good drainage so the plant doesn't sit in water. In spring and summer, keep the compost moist but not wet. In autumn and winter, water when the top few centimeters of compost become dry.
  • Fertilize: Fertilize your plant regularly during its active growing stage. You can use a weak liquid feed once a month in spring and summer, or a balanced N-P-K fertilizer once every month in spring and summer.
  • Pruning: Remove dead fronds as needed to keep the plant looking attractive.
  • Temperature: Outdoor ferns prefer temperatures between 65–75°F.

Plant Benefits

  • Ferns are valued for their attractive foliage and ability to thrive in low-light conditions. Many fern types, particularly those from tropical and semi-tropical regions, can be grown as houseplants.
